September 2004 Calls


2004-052 - September 2, 2004 - 423 South Nulton Street, Palmer Township - Dispatched originally to stand by for a possible response with Station 27 for a dwelling fire. On original dispatch 2754 was able to see smoke from several miles away. He immediately requested an engine from Nancy Run Fire Co. Station 14 and us to be placed on stand-by. 2751 arrived and found a heavily involved bi-level dwelling and requested we respond. 2311 and 2312 each responded with 5 firefighters who reported to the manpower pool and awaited depolyment. Crews were assigned to check the basement, another crew checked for extension in the dwelling next door (there was melted vinyl siding on this home and windows were open), another went to the fire floor to pull ceilings and walls and they were relieved by another crew to finish this task. When a flareup occurred in the attic area, a crew was ordered to stand-by in the front yard and be ready for instant deployment. We were released by 27 Command after being on scene over 3 hours. The following units were on scene: 2721, 2711, 2712, 2713, 2741, 2743, 2744, 1412, 1421, 2311, 2312, 2785 and 2786. Also on scene was the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Americen Red Cross who (along with EMS 27) provided refreshments and family services to the occupants of the dwelling.

2004-053 - September 08, 2004 - 200 block of South Delaware Drive (PA Rt. 611), Williams Township - Dispatched with Station 28 for a vehicle accident with unknown injuries. Station 28 was dispatched for a tractor trailer rollover. 2814 responded with four firefighter and 2855 requested we be dispatched for 2312.Four firefighters were about to respond when cancelled by 2855 when it was confirmed that there was no entrappment or hazards.

2004-054 - September 14, 2004 - Diversified Flock Products Inc., 1150 Center Street, Williams Township - Dispatched with Station 28 for a structure fire. Update from Northampton County Radio was that there was a fire in an oven and employees were unable to contain it. 28 Command reported smoke on arrival and requested that a supply line be laid. 2311 responded with a crew of 4 and assisted in extinguishment and overhaul.

2004-055 - September 16, 2004 - PA Route 22 Westbound, East of South 25th Street Exit, Palmer Township - Dispatched with Station 27 for a vehicle fire. All responding units were cancelled by 27 Command as the call was unfounded.

2004-056 - September 18, 2004 - 704 East Street - Dispatched for a structure collapse with possible entrappment. 2351 arrived followed by 2312 with a crew of 6. The heavy rains caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ivan had the side yard about three feet deep in water against the block foundation, which eventaully failed from the pressure. There was no entrappment. Crews set up a portable pump to remove the water so contractors could shore up the supports for the first floor. When sufficient water was removed our services were no longer needed. Borough Building Inspector was on scene.

2004-057 - September 18, 2004 - 708 East Street - While at the scene of the above call, this property owner advised us that he had approximately two feet of water in the basement. Crews set up a Prossor pump and then used the portable pump to remove water. The property owner did bring in a rented pump to relieve us.

2004-058 - September 18, 2004 - Reda Productions, 110 Main Street - Received a request from Reda Productions to assist them with removing water from their basement storage area. There is a nutural spring that flows through the building and due to the power outage, their sump pumps were not operating. 2311 responded with a crew of 2 and connected their pumps to out generator and assisted in cleanup until power was restored.

2004-059 - September 18, 2004 - "The Flats" area of Lehigh Drive, Winter Street and Lynn Street, City of Easton - Dispatched to assist The City of Easton in notification and evacuation of this area due to the rise of the Lehigh River. 2311 & 2312 responded with crews of 4 and 4 and walked through the area going door to door to advise residents of the fast rising river and encouraged them to evacuate the area. Firefighters assisted with shutting off the utilities and getting them safely out of ther homes to higher ground. We also sent a crew to our area of Lehigh Drive to encourage our residents to move to higher ground.

2004-060 - September 18, 2004 - Various Locations, Palmer Township - Palmer fire called requesting assistance with multiple pump details caused by the extensive flooding. 5 firefighters went with 3 pumps and assisted for 6 hours.

2004-061 - September 25, 2004 - Fire Station 27-2 Freemansburg Avenue, Palmer Township - Dispatched to move an engine crew to Palmer fire station 27-2 while they operated at an all-hands fire on McFadden Road. 2311 with a crew of 4 moved up until released by 27 Command.

2004-062 - September 28, 2004 - Reda Productions, 110 Main Street - Received a report of wires arcing on the building. 2311 responded with a crew of 2 and were met at the scene by 2352. It was determined to be an electric utility problem and when they arrived all units were released.
