| 2005-025 April 03, 2005 | Dispatched to report to our station to assist in an evacuation. Due to heavy rains in the area and more rain upstream along the Delaware River, combined with the melting snow from upstream caused the Delaware River to back up the Lehigh River flooding our area of Lehigh Drive. The West Easton EMA opened the Emergency Operations Center at our station to monitor the rise of the rivers upstream and in our area. 12 residences were advised to evacuate because the river was expected to rise higher than it had for 50 years. Most residents remained until the power was cut by Metropolitan Edison. After a final check, the E.O.C. was shut down at 1800 hrs. The Delaware River crested in Easton at 36.5 feet in the early morning hours of Monday 04 April 2005. The flood waters along the Lehigh River began receeding in the late morning and by nightfall had gone down considerably. |
